Hey, everybody! Casey Denman here with TaxSaleAcademy.com, answering your weekly question. This week’s question says, “Do I need a real estate license to buy and sell tax sale properties?” And that was submitted by Mark.
Mark, first of all, thank you for your question. Your answer here is no. Absolutely not. You do not need a real estate license to buy and sell tax sale properties. Would I recommend you getting one before you get started? No. Absolutely not. And this comes from somebody that is licensed. This comes from somebody that started a tax sale investing career by ways of being a licensed real estate agent and a licensed real estate broker. I brokered properties for a few years before I got into tax sale investing, and now I invest fulltime in tax sale properties.
And the reason I don’t recommend it is twofold. Number one, it takes a lot of time and a lot of effort to get a real estate license. There’s books you got to read, there’s studying that has to be done and tests you have to take. There’s just a lot of time and a lot of effort involved, and that time and effort will be better spent learning how to properly invest in tax sale properties.
And number two, it’ll kind of give you a skewed viewpoint of tax sale investing. A lot of realtors just don’t understand tax sale investing. They don’t know what goes into it. They don’t know how to make a successful tax sale investment happen. There’s a lot of aspects that they just don’t understand. And that’s okay if you’re going to be a realtor, but if you want to be a tax sale investor, you don’t need that skewed viewpoint and you’d just simply be wasting your time if you’re to get a license to become a real estate agent or a real estate broker.
So Mark, I hope this has answered your question. If you need a follow-up or if anybody else out there has any other questions related to tax sale investing, please submit your questions to me at TaxSaleAcademy.com. That’s “TaxSaleAcademy.com,” and it’s very possible I’ll give you a video response just like this one. Have a great day, guys!
