Hey there! It’s Casey Denman here with TaxSaleAcademy.com, answering your weekly question. This week’s question is from Alexandra and she asked, “How important is a sign? Do I need one on each piece of property I sell?”

Alexandra, first off, thanks for your question. It is a very good one. To be honest with you, we’re in 2013. A lot of the old school guys; the old realtors, investors and developers, think that you have to have a sign on every single piece of property you’re trying to sell. I couldn’t disagree with this more. We are, like I said, in 2013. We’re in the new age. When people search for properties, they go straight to the Internet. They don’t take those old-fashioned Sunday strolls, riding up and down neighborhoods, looking for a sign for sale. They’re going to go straight to the Internet, start their search there and see if they can find a piece of property they’re interested in on the Internet.

So as far as putting signs out, if it’s possibly the piece of property right next door to the place you live or if it’s a 5 minute or 10 minute drive away, by all means, put a sign out. It won’t hurt per se. But if you have a piece of property on the other side of the country, you shouldn’t get on a flight and travel all the way there just to put a sign up because number one, it’s likely to be stolen. And number two, it’s likely that not a whole lot of your potential buyers will be driving by to write that phone number down. Instead, they’re going to find you through the Internet.
